Sorry guys - we unleashed a biochemical frenzy in our build review of Mob Miniatures new 35th scale zombie sets...

With “The Walking Dead’ on the way back to our TV’s, and Zombies being still a popular subject on in movies, why not give modellers some zombies in a scale they can use to recreate the scenes for their dioramas? Two new 1/35 scale resin figures from Mob Miniatures are up for review today – hopefully, these can fill that void? Let’s put them together to see their quality in our review…

We have a new set of figures from a company that I had not heard of too much before now – Mob Miniatures is distributed by Neucraft Models, who sell many good figures and set. We thought we would take a look at them both in their packages and both built up.

Now – Zombies are not my usual cup’o’tea… I’m not much into horror, but having been a fan of “The Walking Dead” and of course of movies like the Vincent Price/ Charleton Heston “Last Man on Earth” movies I am more interested in these figures and the apocalyptic world they inhibit (not live in I suppose.) Why not take a look at these?

The boxes turned up looking very smart for 35th scale figures.  Black stiff card with a magnet sealing the flap of the box so it stays closed “as if by Voodoo” It’s certainly a very smart packaging for something so grotesque looking once made up! Kudos to Mob Miniatures for putting that extra effort into the presentation of the kits. I like the “Zombies Inside!” and “Danger Biochemical Frenzy” warnings on the front, hinting at how these creatures came to be.
Once you open the boxes up there is a nice message to the modeller thanking them, and the figures both come in zip-loc bags so you do not lose any parts. Not that there is much in the way of construction (or clothes) for these 35th scale figures.
Common to both of these figures is the light grey resin that makes them up. This is nicely cast, however, there are some seam lines which I have left on so you can see them and what you are getting. These will not take any real time to remove but full disclose is just that.
OK let’s have a look at them each singularly in detail.

Zombie Butcher
Mob Miniatures
BF-001
1/35 scale
resin figure kit
$14.90
This is the larger – big fat fellow with a bad skin disorder and a rather large cleaver in his left hand. He comes in only three parts in the zip-loc bag. Two cleavers, and the other being his big round mounds of (brain) lovin'
The sculpt is in 1/35th grey resin, and stand as 58mm high. He is from the “Biochemical Frenzy” series and right now is one of a two-set. I think that there might be more of these in the works. The sculpt is made by Qing Yi, and in the case of the box art, it is painted by “Fen” (one-word name – just Fen).
When we say he requires minor assembly and painting, well that is what we mean. The figure is all ready to go, just without his cleavers in his hands. Here he is in a walk around. The large fat flesh of this butcher is sagging and wrinkled in a hideous fashion, warts or some boils of pus on his skin are pretty nasty hey?
Notice the seam lines that need to be removed? It should not take long but I left them on there to show you how he comes straight from the box.

…And here he is with his cleavers in place – not much of a change but all of a sudden he goes from a roly-poly looking fatty, into a dangerous brain-eating monster! The mouth is screaming open and the expression is pretty scary.

Zombie Degenerate
Mob Miniatures
1/35 Scale
BF-002
resin figure kit
$14.90
This is the second in the biochemical frenzy series in 1/35 scale grey resin from Mob Miniatures. Again the sculpt is made by Qing Yi and box art painted by Fen. This “Degenerate” stands at 54mm tall and he is completely different in body shape than his porcine butcher sidekick. Obviously, he is the “Zombie Brains” of the organization…
The figure comes in the same type of box, with the three parts of resin, sealed in the zip-loc bags again. The parts are the torso and head along with two arms.

The single torso of the figure has again some slight vertical lines going up and down it. Again these will be shaved off pretty easily with some deft sanding or scalpel work. That will not take long to fix. The head is pretty gored up looking and the right-hand side of the head looks like someone has had a little bit of a nibble on. The skinny frame of the zombie is more in line of what we expect with a zombie I think.
The two hands look almost like claws to me which is good! You want your zombies to look scary I think -  These are joined at an odd angle to the body so check with the artwork to get the right join. The arm going up can actually be posed in a downwards way – so you have choices – but reaching up is probably scarier.
Here he is all built up… He took only a few minutes to put together.
And here both of them are together – in a scary situation I could well imagine these to add to the drama. They are easy to make, look good, and as we will see later on paint up quite nicely.
Mob Miniatures also have several survivors and zombie hunters to be released in the near future, so having these and the others in tour collection could give you a good choice of just how you want your zombie/ biohazard diorama to look.

Here they are made up and painted by Fen - pretty cool, but at the same time pretty grotesque - in a good way
