RocKit Studio: 3D-printed Landing Gear for 1/48th F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Kits

RocKit Studios' latest release looks to upgrade your F-18 E/F or Growler's landing gear. We found it looks surprisingly useful; see the features in our preview...

TMN: RocKit Studio: 3D-printed F/A-18E/F Super Hornet Landing Gear for Academy, Meng & Hasegawa Kits

Aftermarket producer RocKit Studio ("Rebirth Your KIT") has introduced a new 3D-printed upgrade option for modern jet enthusiasts. This release provides an alternative to kit-supplied landing gear for multiple 1/48th scale F/A-18E/F Super Hornet kits. We outline the details, features, and CAD layouts below.

This 1/48th scale upgrade set contains full replacements for the main and nose landing gear assemblies. Designed using specialised CAD modelling software, the parts replicate the structural framework, hydraulic lines, tie-down loops, and mechanical linkages of the F-18 E/F/G series, including the "growler".

To counter the weight of the completed model and avoid structural distortion, the 3D-printed components feature internal metal reinforcement cores. This design embeds a rigid metal wire directly inside the primary vertical struts during processing, preventing the resin from bending or deforming over time under load.
The set is engineered to accommodate different engineering choices across major manufacturers. The parts are fully compatible as direct replacements for the following 1/48 scale model kits:
• Academy F/A-18E/F kits
• Meng F/A-18E/F kits
• Hasegawa F/A-18E/F kits
The CAD drawings reveal the multi-part structure of the assemblies. The main gear struts are engineered with precise mounting tabs matching the distinct attachment slots inside the Academy, Meng, and Hasegawa wheel wells. Brake lines, small structural brackets, and separate retraction cylinders are rendered into the print file to maximise detail density while preserving standard mounting orientations.
