Dragon unleash their small scale snake ???

I remember as a child a friend of mine got a “state of the art” (then) SR-71 Blackbird kit from ARII in 1/144 – it looked so bad-&$$ that I fell in love with the shape as soon as I saw it – then as an adult I saw the real thing – I still think it is made by alien technology – Kelly Johnston knew too much!

Anyway I digress from the subject at hand – Dragon have made a new tool kit of the “Habu” in 1/144th scale and the features and promise of the kit are indeed tempting – even in such a small scale – let’s look at the preview CAD stuff and feature list
1/144 Lockheed SR-71A Blackbird –New Tooling
Dragon has cooked up a delicious new kit, a 1/144 scale version of the famous SR-71 Blackbird! This futuristic-looking aircraft from Lockheed’s Skunk Works was designed as a strategic reconnaissance aircraft able to cruise at high altitudes at speeds higher than Mach 3. Such was its operational parameters that it had the capability of outrunning surface-to-air missiles fired at it! The first of 32 Blackbirds entered US Air Force (USAF) Strategic Air Command service in 1966, with its first missions taking place over Vietnam. The SR-71A was the standard series production variant and none were ever lost to enemy action, although twelve were destroyed in accidents. The SR-71 served operationally until 1990, while remaining craft were eventually stricken from service in 1998. Now the Blackbird’s role has been largely taken over by satellites and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV).
The 1/144 scale plastic kit is a stunning piece of craftsmanship and it emanates from all-new moulds. These new toolings were produced with the help of sophisticated CAD programs. The model SR-71A encapsulates the sleek and sweeping lines of this advanced reconnaissance aircraft.

The original Blackbird made use of up to 80% titanium in its airframe in order to provide strength and heat-resistance, and observers will find the panel lines on the fuselage of this model are sharply and subtly rendered. With judicious and clever parts separation, the kit engineers have guaranteed a pleasurable and easy build for all levels of aircraft modellers. Once fully assembled, this stealthy Blackbird will have modellers singing sweetly!
