Meng’s Mustang P-51D in 48th scale – we have some details about how it snaps together…

Meng has surprised us all by announcing the snap together 1/48 scale North American P-51D Mustang Fighter plastic model kit. This kit features a fast cement-free assembly design, various store options and various paint schemes of Mustang aces.

Meng’s Mustang - The P-51D in 48th scale…

There was once a Mustang racing across the blue sky, destroying it’s enemies in large numbers. The North American P-51 Mustang was arguably the best fighter in term of general performance during World War II.

The excellent P-51 Mustang had the advantages like fast speed and outstanding manoeuvrability. It could easily defeat any fighter of the Axis powers at that time. The P-51D was the most important Mustang variant. It had improved firepower and could provide the pilot with better visibility. It’s the most produced Mustang.

Meng’s new snap together P-51D in 48th scale - Meng is promising “New Design Concept, Better Mustang Experience” – let’s see if the concept and the model come together…

After some discussions (we read that as product surveys) with modellers, MENG’s team has discovered that many modellers are discouraged about aircraft aspects of making model aircraft subjects. Complaints like “more sanding work than AFVs” and “too many colours to paint” are amongst the bug-bear of modellers that are hesitant to take on aircraft models ( we suppose these modellers have never had to make multiple cockpits.)

How could Meng improve the build experience and also replicate the excellent details at the same time? The LS-006 North American P-51D Mustang Fighter kit is their first try. We applied a different design concept than other 1/48 scale aircraft models. For many beginners, they can build this kit without glue. We don’t forget the senior modellers who are used to using glue. After glueing and painting of this kit, they will find a detailed Mustang model.

The breakdown of the cockpit parts follows the different colours on the real aircraft. You can easily paint them and then assemble them together. You don’t need to mask some parts while painting others.

The cockpit side panels are also provided as separate parts, so it will be easier to paint them. The details will look more realistic than what is currently on the market they are hoping.

The slidable canopy design is not common in 1/48 scale models, and Meng hopes this design can make the model more interesting to modellers who want to change the final appearance of their model at will.

For those modellers who use glue, the reasonable parts breakdown will help reduce the sanding work to the minimum. Say goodbye to the models released 20 years ago and also to the sanding dust on your fingers.

On the basis of an ease of building, Meng has tried to provide the control surfaces in as many parts as possible so it will be easier for senior modellers to upgrade.

An accurate exterior and surface detail is the most basic requirement of MENG products. They have used the laser scanning technology to guarantee the accuracy of this Mustang project.

We hope that the modellers who have always supported us can experience the fun and precision brought by this human-oriented design. Meng also hopes this kit can attract modellers who prefer building easier models and get more people enjoy building plastic models. MENG is looking forward to making modelling more interesting.
