The subject: The Panzehubitze 2000
During WWII, Germany was the country that developed and equipped the most self-propelled guns, including the well-known Hummel and Grille. After WWII, Germany also actively developed new self-propelled guns to cope with the increasingly complicated world situation. In the 1990s, the Panzerhaubitze 2000 appeared. Once released, it was rapidly taken as a reference to develop their new generation of self-propelled howitzers by countries worldwide.
The Pzh 2000 can fire M1711-type shells (base bleed) to ranges of 40–47 km (25–29 mi) & rocket-assisted projectiles to 67 km (42 mi).
The PzH 2000’s overall length is 11.69 m, width 3.54 m, and combat weight 55.8 t. The vehicle utilises a large number of chassis parts from the Leopard 1 MBT and Leopard 2 MBT. It is powered by the MTU MT881 engine, which has excellent manoeuvrability; the PzH 2000 is equipped with one 155mm/L52 gun from Rheinmetall, with an advanced sight and fire-control system; 60 rounds are stored vertically on board in a horseshoe arrangement; its automatic shell-loading system has realised automatic management of all ammunition and greatly improved the rate of fire, starting a new era of autoloaders. It has strong operational capability, maneuverability and superior protective capability. It is one of the most advanced self-propelled guns in the world. This vehicle entered German Army service in 1998 and then the armies of Italy, the Netherlands and Greece.
The Kit:
The PzH2000 is the modern German Army’s most important vehicle. For its mighty exterior and strong operational capability, it is greatly welcomed and loved by most modellers. Through a long time of reference collection, study and analysis, finally MENG now releases this 1/72nd scale German Panzerhaubitze 2000 Self-Propelled Howitzer plastic model kit. The model kit realistically represents the shape of the vehicle with a length of 163 mm, a width of 50 mm, and a height of 53 mm. The kit comes with highly detailed water transfer decals.
The driver’s and crew’s hatches can be built in either open or closed position; the movable suspension system is perfectly reproduced; cement-free workable track links are easy to assemble; the metal barrel is time-saving and easy to assemble; moreover, it can increase a sense of reality.
