The All-Japan Model & Hobby Show kicks off this week, and Tamiya took the opportunity to unveil an exciting new release for the modelling community. Back in 2018, their 1/48 scale F-14D was hailed as a marvel of model engineering, and Tamiya’s designers have built on that legacy to deliver something truly special.
This December, modellers can look forward to assembling a modern classic: a 1/72 scale plastic model kit of the F-14D Tomcat. To showcase its intricate detail, they have prepared a raw, unpainted version with panel line wash—giving you a clear view of the craftsmanship that awaits.
The kit's features:
- This kit features a wingspan of 272 mm and a fuselage length of 265 mm.
- It includes variable-sweep wings, with distinct, interchangeable parts that depict sealing plates and air bags in various positions.
- Horizontal stabilisers are movable thanks to poly caps
- Modellers can choose between open or closed configurations for the fuel probe (right side of the nose) and the boarding ladder and step (left side of the fuselage).
- The canopy, air intake side sections, and fuselage sides are slide-moulded for precise shaping and surface detail. - Additional parts allow for the recreation of laser-guided bombs, LANTIRN pods, and air-to-air missiles.
- The kit also includes two seated crew figures and offers five U.S. Navy marking options.

Views of the kit and some of the liveries from four different squadrons in five different choices, both high- and low-viz.
The kit will include five decal choices in the markings, including the "Bounty Hunters" version on the excellent box art. This kit includes canopy masks and stencils included on a second sheet also.
