The F/A-18C Hornet is a highly agile, carrier-capable, multirole strike fighter. Featuring digital fly-by-wire controls, a robust airframe, and advanced radar, this "legacy" variant served as the backbone of fleet defence and close air support for decades, ultimately paving the way for today's Super Hornet variants.

Based at NAS Oceana in Virginia, VFC-12 (Fighter Squadron Composite Twelve), known as the "Fighting Omars", is a U.S. Navy Reserve adversary squadron. Their primary mission is to provide Dissimilar Air Combat Training (DACT) to fleet squadrons, simulating the flight characteristics, tactics, and visual signatures of potential adversaries. To achieve this realistic threat representation, the unit's F/A-18Cs feature unique, elaborate paint schemes and insignia that closely replicate foreign military aircraft (such as Russian Su-35s or Chinese J-11s). Beyond these localised adversary colours, VFC-12 aircraft often carry distinct tail markings—such as checked rudders or retro-style combat liveries—that have made them highly recognisable among aviation enthusiasts.

Focke-Wulf FW190A-6
by Hobbyboss
Model no: 81781
1/48th scale
The Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-6 was a pivotal mid-war upgrade for Germany's famous "Butcher Bird", introduced in the summer of 1943. Designed specifically to address the structural weight and armament constraints of earlier A-series fighters, the A-6 featured a completely redesigned, lightweight wing that allowed it to carry a much heavier payload. It replaced earlier light machine guns with standardised, hard-hitting 20 mm MG 151 cannons.

The iconic black and white checkered nose was a distinctive unit marking used primarily by Jagdgeschwader 1 (JG 1), a fighter wing tasked with the perilous defence of the Reich. This striking "checkernose" pattern was applied to the engine cowling in 1943 to ensure immediate in-flight visual identification by both wingmen and adversaries. Fw 190A-6 aircraft from the 1st Staffel of JG 1—such as the famous "White 12" flown by Uffz. Bernhard Kunze proudly wore these bold, contrasting cowls.

-Model Length: 184.4mm / Wingspan: 220.4mm
