Italeri continues in their tradition of immortalising great Italian cars in plastic. This, their latest kit, is presented to us in CAD for today; it represents the Lancia Delta HF in its iconic “Safari” configuration from the 1991 season in 1/12th scale.

The 1991 Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16V "Safari" rally car.
The 1991 Lancia Delta HF Integrale 16V was a legendary rally machine. Driven by Juha Kankkunen and co-driven by Juha Piironen for the Martini Lancia team, the car secured a famous victory at the 1991 Safari Rally in Kenya. This specific iteration cemented the hatchback's reputation as a dominant force in the Group A era of the World Rally Championship (WRC).

We look in these photos of three Safari Rally 1991 Lancia Delta Integrale 16V's – this one was of the unfortunate end of M. Biasion & T. Siviero's car, which is one of the three in this kit you can choose from.
Equipped with a powerful 2.0-litre double-overhead-cam, 16-valve turbocharged and intercooled engine, the rally car required robust modifications to survive the harsh and notoriously gruelling Kenyan terrain. To handle the demanding endurance event, the car featured significantly reinforced suspensions, extended wheel arches for larger tyres, higher ground clearance, and an external front bull bar. It also incorporated heavy-duty modifications like a reinforced body and a roof-mounted air intake snorkel.

The success of the 1991 Safari Rally car helped Lancia claim the 1991 WRC Manufacturers' title. This victory is considered a high point in the 16V's competition lifecycle, taking place just before Lancia transitioned to the heavily updated Evoluzione (or "Deltona") models the following season.
