The Subject: The duck & geese family...
Ducks belong to the waterfowl family Anatidae but do not form a single, distinct evolutionary group. They are generally smaller with shorter necks than their close relatives, the swans and geese. As aquatic birds, they inhabit both freshwater and marine environments, though they are frequently confused with unrelated waterbirds like loons, grebes, and coots.

These geese are doing some goose-stepping of their own past a burnt-out Panther...
The word "duck" originates from the Old English word dūce, meaning "diver". This term developed from a verb meaning to bend low or dive under something. The name directly reflects the feeding behavior of dabbling ducks, which tip upside down in the water to feed, sharing linguistic roots with the Dutch word duiken and German tauchen.

These fowl served a part of the everyday lifestyles of humans, especially in past times when they were more prevalent outside of egg or meat farms. great for dioramas.
Ducks possess extraordinary vision due to the unique lateral placement of their eyes, which grants them a nearly 360-degree field of view. This panoramic sight allows them to watch for predators directly behind and above them simultaneously while foraging. Furthermore, their eyes are biologically engineered to see in full colour and even detect ultraviolet light, which enhances their ability to locate food sources and navigate complex aquatic landscapes.

Below is a photo of Sgt Jack “Siwash” Cornelius, the feathered Marine who went ashore with the 2nd Marine Division during the Battle of Tarawa in WWII. Known for her fierce loyalty and surprising love of beer, Siwash became an honorary member of the U.S. Marine Corps. She survived battle, marched with Marines, and lived out her days as a true legend.
