The subject: The Hawker Hunter T.7 — A generation’s instructors
The Hawker Hunter T.7 and its specialised T.7A counterpart represent one of the most successful side-by-side jet trainer conversions in aviation history. Developed in the mid-1950s to ease the transition of pilots into high-performance swept-wing fighters, the variant required a radical redesign of the standard Hunter fuselage. Engineers widened and lengthened the nose section to accommodate two pilots sitting abreast, a layout preferred by the Royal Air Force for superior instructor-student interaction. To offset the weight of the expanded cockpit and dual controls, the aircraft’s standard operational armament was reduced from four 30mm Aden cannons to just one, though it retained full tactical capabilities for weapons training and drop-tank provisions.

Entering frontline service in 1958, the T.7 quickly earned a reputation among aircrews for maintaining the exceptionally smooth, docile handling characteristics of the single-seat fighter variants. It became the backbone of advanced pilot training, instrument rating, and continuation flying across numerous RAF squadrons and international air arms, including the Netherlands and Denmark. The aircraft's versatility was further demonstrated by its adoption as a support airframe for military aerobatic teams, most notably the RAF's Blue Diamonds, where its sleek lines and reliable Rolls-Royce Avon engine made it a crowd favourite at international airshows.

The subsequent T.7A modification highlights the airframe's adaptability to evolving Cold War requirements. Six standard T.7 trainers were specifically modified with specialised instrumentation to mimic the cockpit layout of the Blackburn Buccaneer, a heavy, low-level maritime strike aircraft. Operating primarily out of RAF Lossiemouth with the No. 237 Operational Conversion Unit, these T.7A variants allowed naval and air force pilots to master complex strike profiles before stepping into the larger bomber. The Hunter two-seaters proved remarkably durable, outlasting many of the supersonic jets meant to replace them, with the final military airframes only retiring from official UK service in March 1994.

The Hunter has long been a star of Revell's aircraft range in 1/32nd scale - this new tooled kit brings the loved two-seat trainer into their range with an all-new feature set.

Advanced 3D-Scanning Precision - The standout feature of this new-tooling kit is its reliance on cutting-edge 3D scanning technology to replicate the iconic two-seater airframe. Revell used high-fidelity 3D reconstructions to engineer the entire hull section, ensuring an incredibly accurate scale conversion of the widened trainer nose. This advanced manufacturing process ensures that all 185 individual pieces fit together with absolute perfection, eliminating complex alignment issues for modellers. 

The built-up test kit seen here was painted by the Revell staff. The twin cockpit is the main feature of this kit.

Stores are, of course, provided, but only droptanks from what we have seen.

Designed as a challenging Level 5 kit, the model boasts an intricately detailed side-by-side double cockpit. The interior features precisely reproduced instrument panels down to the individual display gauges, alongside realistically moulded front and flight instructor ejection seats complete with fine strap details. This highly detailed interior is visible beneath a crystal-clear pulpit canopy. On the exterior, the model showcases premium surface structures, capturing the finest panel lines across the wings, fuselage, and tail-engine assemblies. 

Authentic Markings & Historical Liveries: The kit provides builder flexibility by including premium parts and decals to build either the standard T.7 trainer or the specialised T.7A maritime strike configuration. The included decal sheet offers three distinct, authentic paint finishes to mirror historical operating units. Modellers can finish their jet in standard Royal Air Force camouflage, the striking all-royal-blue livery of the RAF’s 92 Squadron "Blue Diamonds" display team, or the classic service markings of the Royal Netherlands Air Force.
