Chinese Z-10K Attack Helicopter

Development of the Changhe Z-10 began in the mid-1990s as China's first dedicated attack helicopter, culminating in its maiden flight in 2003. Engineered primarily for anti-armour warfare, battlefield interdiction, and close air support, the platform also possesses light air-to-air capabilities to defend against hostile aircraft. It adopts a traditional gunship design, featuring a narrow profile and stepped tandem seating that positions the gunner in the forward cockpit and the pilot in the rear. To maximise its tactical survivability, the fuselage incorporates sloped, angular sides that actively lower its radar cross-section, while heavy internal armour plating safeguards the crew and vital flight systems from ground fire.

While initial evaluation prototypes were powered by dual 1,531-horsepower Canadian Pratt & Whitney PT6C-67C engines, production models transitioned to domestic powerplants to secure supply chain independence. The helicopter features a modern fly-by-wire flight control system paired with a helmet-mounted targeting sight for heads-up weapon alignment. For navigation and targeting, it relies on integrated nose-mounted television and forward-looking infrared (FLIR) sensors. The Z-10's defensive electronics include radar and laser warning receivers, an active infrared jammer, and automated flare dispensers, providing robust protection against tracking systems and incoming missiles.

German Tirpitz Battleship

The German battleship Tirpitz, the second vessel of the Bismarck class, was launched on April 1, 1939, with the initial strategic mission of raiding Allied commerce in the Atlantic Ocean. However, after the British Royal Navy sank the Bismarck in May 1941, Adolf Hitler lost faith in his capital ships and strictly limited Tirpitz's movements to avoid another high-profile loss. Her operational limits grew even tighter in March 1942, when British commandos destroyed the Normandie dry dock in Saint-Nazaire during the daring St Nazaire Raid. Because this attack wiped out the only facility on the Atlantic coast large enough to repair Tirpitz, the German command permanently stationed the battleship in the remote fjords of northern Norway for the rest of World War II.

Acting as a powerful "fleet in being", Tirpitz only launched three offensive sorties between 1942 and 1943, yet her hidden presence forced the Allies to constantly divert immense naval and air forces to guard vital Arctic convoys. The British Royal Navy made neutralising the vessel a top priority, launching countless submarine attacks and air raids over several years. The final blow came on November 12, 1944, during Operation Catechism, when British Royal Air Force Lancaster bombers targeted the ship with massive, 5.4-tonne "Tallboy" earthquake bombs. Hit by multiple direct strikes, the heavily damaged battleship capsized and sank in the shallow waters of Tromsø Fjord, permanently ending the threat of Germany's surface fleet.
