The subject: The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7
The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 stands as one of the most legendary homologation specials in automotive history, originally conceived to qualify Porsche for Group 4 European GT Championship racing. Unveiled at the 1972 Paris Motor Show, this performance machine shattered traditional design conventions by prioritising a strict regime of weight reduction and aerodynamic precision. It made history as the first production sports car to feature functional front and rear spoilers—most notably the iconic "ducktail" rear spoiler engineered by Tilman Brodbeck to counteract high-speed lift. Porsche initially intended to manufacture a limited run of just 500 units to satisfy international motorsport rules. However, overwhelming commercial demand forced the German automaker to triple production, ultimately delivering 1,580 examples by July 1973.
At the mechanical heart of this vehicle was an enlarged, air-cooled 2.7-litre flat-six engine that utilised advanced Nikasil cylinder coatings directly derived from the company’s dominant 917 racing programme. This powerplant generated a formidable 210 horsepower, driving the rear wheels via a robust Type 915 five-speed manual transmission. Depending on a buyer's preference, the car could be ordered in the stripped-out M471 Sport configuration—which weighed just 960 kilograms thanks to thinner sheet metal, lightweight glass, and sparse interiors—or the more civilized M472 Touring package. In its lighter Sport trim, the Carrera RS 2.7 could rocket from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 5.8 seconds before crossing a top speed of 245 km/h, securing its title as Germany’s fastest production car of the era. By introducing staggered tyre sizes and widened rear bodywork to handle the increased power, this model effectively established the engineering blueprint for all future track-focused flagships, including the modern GT3 and GT2 series

The kit:
The new Tamiya CLIC LOC series welcomes the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 into its expanding lineup of cement-free model kits. The parts in the kit are moulded in the right colour, so you do not have to paint! Also, the number of parts is about half of that seen in current Tamiya 1/24 Sports Car Series kits. Each kit can be finished in about two to three hours!
