Italeri "Marching" on with Sprues, colours, boxart in several scales...

Italeri again has some really different models in several scales available this month - 72nd & 48th aircraft with rotors & wings and two very different trucks that are both pretty interesting - see for yourself with boxart, colours & box contents in our preview...

ARADO AR 196 A-3

The Arado Ar 196 was the main embarked recognisance seaplane used by the Kriegsmarine during Second World War. Single-engined, with low wing monoplane, had in the cockpit a two crew members seated in tandem: pilot and observatory – gunner. For its period, the Arado Ar 196 was an advanced modern aircraft. The radial 9 cylinders BMW 132 engine was capable to arrogate 960 HP. The airframe structure of the Arado was optimized for the embarked purposes on main Germans vessels and cruisers. It can be catapulted directly from the vessel and with its fuselage-wing hinges backwards folding wings system, it can be better stowed on board. The fame for the Arado Ar 196 if for being an embarked recognisance (the battlecruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau had three of them on board while the more famous ship of the Kriegsmarine, the Bismark, had four Arado Ar 196) was used also in the role of cost shore recognisance.

HSS-1 SEABAT

The helicopter HSS-1 “Seabat” was produced by the American company Sikorsky from the mid-1950s. The Seabat entered in service with the United States Navy to perform an anti-submarine mission. The HSS-1 and the utility transport configuration HUS-1 were also used by the United States Marine Corps and United States Coast Guard.  The HSS-1 is considered the first A.S.W. (Anti Submarine Warfare), helicopter specifically developed for this mission profile, and it adopted modern, for its time,  antisub research equipment, depth charges and torpedoes. Thanks to its Wright R-1820 Cyclone piston engine the Seabat was able to reach the max speed of 200 Km / h. It achieved a  good commercial success around the World. The “Seabat” was used in many countries and even produced under license.

The range of engines has been developed to minimize the running and operating costs and ensure a longer working life. A further improvement has been made with the introduction of the modern diesel D38 6 cylinders engine family (up to 640 HP and a max torque of 3,000 Nm)  able to have a better performance during all the types of commercial and transportation duties.



SU-27 FLANKER

The Sukhoi Su-27 is a twin-engine air superiority fighter aircraft entered in service in the second half of the ‘80s. It was developed during the '70s with a precise goal: to create a fighter able to successfully compete against the American F-14 and F-15 fighters. Furthermore, the new fighter was set up to perform the important long-range air defence role against the American B-1 and B-52 strategic bombers. It has been considered, since the beginning, one of the best fighters of the period. 
The Su-27 is characterized by a harmonious aerodynamic line and,  despite its large size, the “Flanker” is extremely agile and maneuverable. Thanks to the two powerful NPO Saturn AL-31 turbofans, the Su-27 is able to reach the maximum speed of Mach 2.35. It is armed with a 30 mm gun and it can use a wide range of air-to-air weapons, such as R-27 and R-73 missiles, and air-to-surface bombs and rockets.

The Boeing CH-47 Chinook is one of the most famous heavy-lift helicopters in Military Aviation History. Characteristic for its two engine tandem rotor configuration, one over the cabin and one in the tail section. It was specifically developed to meet the U.S. Army’s transportation needs and to replace the obsolete H-21. 

The CH-47 Chinook has been produced in several versions and it has been adopted by a lot of Countries all over the World. The British Royal Air Force has the largest Chinook fleet outside the U.S.A. The Chinook has been adopted in several operating scenarios as Falklands, Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan, since its first version, the HC.1, which was based on the CH-47C.
