The Subject: The PT-91 Main Battle Tank (MBT)
Commonly known as Twardy (Polish for "hard"), is a further modification by Zaklady Mechaniczne Bumar-Labedy SA of the Russian-made T-72M1 tank, which has long been produced under licence in Poland. The first prototype of the PT-91 was constructed late in 1992 and tested with the Polish Army that same year. The first PT-91 enters service with the Polish army in 1995. In April 2003, representatives from the Malaysian government and Polish Defence Company BUMAR (now Polish Defence Holding) signed a contract for the delivery of 48 MBTs PT-91M, 6 armoured recovery vehicles WZT-4, 5 armoured bridge layers PMC-90 LEGUAN, and 3 armoured engineer vehicles MID-M, kicking off active cooperation with the Malaysian defence industry and Malaysian Armed Forces.
Over the winter of 2005, the first PT-91 for Malaysia was produced and later successfully completed rigors testing on Polish ranges. These tests were overseen by a delegate of Malaysian army representatives. Following some adjustments based on test findings, the tank was shipped to Malaysia in August 2005 for the PT-91M's first public display, which took place on August 31, 2005, in Kuala Lumpur, as part of the large military procession for Malaysia Independence Day. The Malaysian Armour Corps' tank open was a column that was dressed in the colours of the 4th Mechanised Brigade's 11th Regiment.
From September to December 2005, the identical tank that was featured in the parade successfully completed rigors testing in harsh climatic and terrain conditions. The Polish Army continues to use the PT-91. The Peruvian army considered replacing the outdated Russian-made T-55 tank with the PT-91 but ultimately decided against it. In an interview on July 25, 2022, Polish Armament Agency spokesman Krzysztof Płatek declared that Poland has shipped PT-91 Twardy Main Battle Tanks manufactured in Poland to Ukraine. The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence declared on January 27, 2023, that Poland would send Ukraine 30 PT-91 Twardy Main Battle Tanks. Online vision has already shown that the Ukrainian army has begun employing the PT-91 tanks that Poland had donated to them.

The kit from Amusing Hobby:
This new kit, number #35A059 from Amusing Hobby, is an adaptation of many of their earlier T-72 kits. This one features the add-on reactive armour , mudguards & new sighting equipment for this variant.
There are no notes on markings or colour schemes for this tank, but no doubt there will be plenty in Ukrainian colours with cages of some type or another on top in various combinations. This is a very cool-looking variant of this type, and we expect it to sell well.
