Russian Mi-8MTV5 Hip
by Trumpeter
Kit No. 05853
1/48th scale
The Mi-17 represents an advanced evolution of the Mi-8 helicopter. While the airframe structure, transport capabilities, and general equipment remain largely similar to the Mi-8, the Mi-17 incorporates several key enhancements. These include engine intakes equipped with deflectors to filter out solid particles such as sand and dust, preventing their ingestion. Additionally, the Mi-17 features a tail rotor positioned on the starboard side, as opposed to the port side of the Mi-8.

Improvements also include the addition of a vibration damper to enhance crew and passenger comfort, as well as advanced navigation and communication systems that enable safe operation in adverse weather conditions, both day and night. The helicopter is powered by a pair of TVZ-117MT or TVZ-117VM shaft-turbine engines, each delivering 1,900 hp at takeoff. The Mi-17 is designed for single-engine flight in the event of an engine failure, thanks to an engine load-sharing system that automatically increases the output of the remaining engine to sustain flight, depending on the aircraft's mission weight.

German Scharnhorst Battleship
by Trumpeter
Kit No. 05361
1/350th scale
The battleship Scharnhorst was the lead vessel of the Scharnhorst class and was initially designed as a battleship equipped with 380 mm main guns to meet anticipated wartime requirements, although this configuration was not realised during World War II. Constructed at the German Naval Shipyard in Wilhelmshaven, the ship was launched on October 3, 1936, and entered service on January 7, 1939. During trials in 1938, it was found to have inadequate bow freeboard, prompting a bow refit in 1939. Following the outbreak of World War II, the Scharnhorst participated in operations in the North Sea in 1940, where it sank two Royal Navy aircraft carriers, Glorious, and two destroyers.

However, the ship sustained damage from British torpedo attacks and required drydocking for repairs. In 1941, the Scharnhorst conducted operations in the Atlantic, sinking 22 merchant vessels with a total tonnage of 115,000 tonnes, significantly impacting Allied shipping. On December 25, 1943, during an attack on an Allied convoy, the Scharnhorst was intercepted by the British battleship Duke of York and ultimately sunk in the ensuing engagement.
