The Subject: The Sd.Kfz.250/7 Ausf.A Leichter Schützenpanzerwagen Schwerer Granatwerfer halftrack...
The Sd.Kfz.250/7 Ausf. A served as a vital mobile artillery pivot for German Panzergrenadier units, bridging the gap between infantry advances and heavy rear-guard fire. By mounting the 8 cm Granatwerfer 34 inside the cramped, open-topped compartment of the "Alte" hull, crews could deliver high-angle mortar fire while remaining protected from small arms and shrapnel. Unlike towed artillery that required lengthy setup times, this half-track allowed teams to "shoot and scoot", rapidly repositioning to keep pace with the fluid nature of Blitzkrieg tactics.
From a design perspective, the Ausf. A variant is easily identified by its intricate, multi-faceted armour plating, which was intended to deflect incoming rounds but proved difficult and expensive to manufacture. Inside the vehicle, space was at a premium; the crew of five had to manage the bulky mortar, their personal gear, and 42 rounds of ammunition within a very narrow frame. Despite these ergonomic challenges, the vehicle’s ability to traverse broken terrain where wheeled trucks would bog down made it an essential asset for providing immediate, indirect support on the front lines.
This new kit from Takom:
This kit is a continuation of their Sd.Kfz.250 kits; this one has all of the features that we have seen on the other 250's in this family, but with the extras that make this a potent AA platform.
The new kit's details in CAD: the front and rear views of the vehicle, showing the small amount of photo-etch in a gold colour. Clear parts are also included in the kit.
The pink shaded parts are the tarps and stowage included in this kit, like the figure designed by Jason Wong; they look like they suit the photos of references I have seen.
The complete interior is included, as you can see by this illustration, enough that the driver, provided in plastic also, fits right into the kit.
The tracks are workable, as is the suspension.

The Subject: The Sd.Kfz. 250/4 Ausf. A Leichter Truppenliftschutzpanzerwagen
The Sd.Kfz. 250/4 Ausf. A was a specialised anti-aircraft light half-track equipped with twin MG 34 machine guns for close-range defence against low-altitude planes. It was distinguished by its modified interior for mounting these guns, designed for rapid fire rather than carrying troops; and its role as a rare, often-confused transitional variant.
What made the 250/4 unique was its specific, and sometimes misunderstood, role as an early air-defence prototype, distinct from the cannon-armed, later Sd.Kfz. 250/9. Unlike other vehicles, it utilised an open-topped mount that, despite its limitations against armoured aircraft, offered a specialised, high-volume fire capability for frontline units.
This new kit from Takom:
This kit is a continuation of their Sd.Kfz.250 kits; this one has many of the features that are shared with Takom's other halftracks in this series. We look at the CADs below to show you what's new in this type.
The new kit's details in CAD: the front and rear views of the vehicle, showing the photo-etch again in the gold colour.
Jason Wong has sculpted the driver to suit this kit's full interior. The tracks are workable, as is the suspension.
