The Subject: Kampfgruppe Hansen. Battle Of The Bulge in WWII
Kampfgruppe Hansen, commanded by SS-Standartenführer Max Hansen, was a key tactical component of the 1st SS Panzer Division "Leibstandarte" during the opening days of the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. As part of the elite 6th Panzer Army, the unit was tasked with providing crucial southern flank protection for the infamous Kampfgruppe Peiper, allowing the main armoured thrust to drive deeper into the Allied lines towards the Meuse River. Comprised mostly of the 1st Battalion/1st SS Panzergrenadier Regiment, Hansen’s battle group was battle-hardened, having fought extensively on the Eastern Front before being deployed for the final German offensive on the Western Front.

SS Kampfgruppe Hansen wer infamous for a well-known film reel from WWII – The Ambush on US forces at Poteau, 1944
On December 18, 1944, Kampfgruppe Hansen achieved a significant tactical victory during a foggy morning near the Belgian village of Poteau. They encountered and ambushed a vulnerable convoy of the U.S. 14th Cavalry Group, effectively destroying numerous armoured M8 Greyhound scout cars and jeeps. The battle, often misidentified simply as a one-sided ambush, was actually a fast-paced encounter where Hansen’s force leveraged the chaotic terrain to disrupt American defensive movements, resulting in many casualties and prisoners for the U.S. side. This action is notable for being heavily documented by accompanying German war correspondents.

German troops from Hansen shelter under a wrecked US M8 during the Battle of the Bulge.
The aftermath of the Poteau clash was immortalised in Nazi propaganda footage and photographs, portraying Panzergrenadiers of Kampfgruppe Hansen inspecting destroyed U.S. equipment and marching through the wintry landscape, which served to boost morale in Germany while highlighting the severity of the Ardennes offensive for the Allies. Although the unit was highly effective, its success was temporary, as Kampfgruppe Hansen was eventually stalled by fierce American resistance and shortages of fuel and supplies. Ultimately, despite its prowess, the unit could not prevent the failure of the offensive or the collapse of the 1st SS Panzer Division’s momentum.

The Kit:
This set features four German infantry figures with weapons, designed for Battle of the Bulge dioramas and late-war winter scenes. The figures are shown in dynamic poses with cold-weather clothing and equipment, accessories, gear and weapons to accessorise your soldiers.

There are four small sprues that each hold one figure, moulded in light grey styrene. These features easily distinguishable faces, fingers and sunken detail for their accessories to fit more neatly into their bodies.
Although this is not a special edition kit, the set comes with several sprues (four) of weapons and equipment to suit German late WWII soldiers. One sprue houses just the equipment, with the M43 helmets, gas mask canisters, flasks & entrenching tools, bayonets, bread bags and ammo pouches
The second sprue comes filled with Panzerfaust parts, with launchers, warheads & ammo boxes on this sprue.
Lastly, a plethora of weapons and ammo – MP-40s, Kar.98s, a Walther & flare pistols, pistols in pouches and open pouches to show a removed pistol, ammo for all of these, map pouches, knives and an ammo box.
Pretty much everything a German WWII soldier would carry on these four sprues.
There is a small photo-etch sprue of thinner parts for the panzerfausts.
This kit is due for release in a month's time
