Teased & hinted at (with varying effectiveness) & revealed today - Revell's "Project Harrier" in 1/32nd scale is on the way...
Preview: Revell to release a 32nd scale Harrier Gr.3 in 2027
Revell has a bit of a tease this week, showing us some images of "Something New" coming on the 19th of May. Tongues were wagging as people were guessing what it could be. The box opening had what some people thought might be a swing wing aeroplane launching from it... Rumours abound, as some said it looked like an F-14 Tomcat, some, an F-111, others the Su-17/22 family of aircraft.
What aircraft does that look like?
Being a German company, we were always interested in that connection with aircraft, so we were left at en end in thinking what could it be. Though with other companies (no names cough Dragon) hinting at things with a very vague statement we were happy to restrain our enthusiasm until we saw something of a real result.
The second hint was yesterday, with a picture of an airfield, same writing and nothing else. Some smartypants-ses were quicker than this scribe even to locate the airfield as Dunsfold in the UK (the home of top Gear). We immediately thought which aircraft had a history at Dunsfold? the hawker hunter and the Harrier both came to mind....
Could it be a Dacia Sandero???
The last hint was a video that featured only the spooling up of the engine(s?) of a jet. We thought straight away that this engine must be a big one as it was taking some time to spool. We listened to he vide and looked up other aircraft starting up, we must have been pretty boring housemates with our eyes closed listening to aircraft start up all day. However, we though that the Harrier was a good match to this sound....The video below..
From the video, we learned that one of the Harriers was at least a Gr.3. We also know that original Harriers were scanned by the development team as well as the Pegasus engine.
Revell will be updating us monthly with new videos, and the community is actually encouraged to provide Revell with feedback and help (be careful what you wish for there Revell) but this is a positive sign from a big model company, pretty smart marketing also, as my friends and I were engaged in discussions about this throughout.
We are hoping for a great model kit from Revell when it launches (vertically we hope) Q3 2027....
Revell's kits are available now from your local hobby store or from the Revell website...
