The Subject: IDF's M1045A1 "Orev" TOW Missile Carrier HUMVEE.
The IDF M1045A1 "Orev" (Raven) is a heavily modified, combat-proven variant of the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) utilised by the Israel Defence Forces. Specifically engineered as an anti-tank missile carrier, this platform integrates the lethal TOW (Tube-launched, Optically-tracked, Wire-guided) missile system onto a rugged, highly mobile chassis. To survive the intense urban and asymmetrical warfare environments characteristic of Israeli operations, the Orev features advanced add-on armour packages. This enhanced ballistic protection shields the crew from small arms fire and shrapnel without compromising the vehicle's off-road agility or tactical deployment capabilities.
Within IDF doctrine, the M1045A1 serves as a critical asset for reconnaissance units and dedicated anti-tank companies attached to infantry brigades. The vehicle allows operators to rapidly position, acquire targets at long ranges, and engage enemy armour or fortified structures from a relatively safe distance. Its low profile and high speed enable hit-and-run tactics, allowing teams to strike precisely and relocate before counter-fire can be organised. Over decades of service, the Orev has been continuously upgraded with improved night-vision optics, digitised command-and-control systems, and modernised missile guidance suites to maintain its lethality on changing battlefields.
The legacy of the Orev Humvee is defined by its extensive operational footprint in conflicts spanning from the security zone in South Lebanon to complex urban operations in Gaza and the West Bank. While originally designed for conventional armour-on-armour warfare, the IDF successfully adapted the platform to counter asymmetric threats, using the precise heavy firepower of TOW missiles to neutralise sniper nests and fortified enemy positions. Though newer guided missile platforms and remote weapon stations are gradually supplementing the fleet, the M1045A1 remains an iconic and reliable workhorse of Israeli mobile fire support.

The new kit from AFV Club
AFV Club's new 1/35th-scale IDF M1045A1 Orev HUMVEE TOW Missle Carrier is an adaptation of their earlier Hummer kits, which are derived from the original Academy kit. This one has the added parts of the TOW launcher and various IDF-specific equipment to the base kit.
You can see the built and painted kit below, built up by the in-house modellers on the staff. The features of the kit are shown off with these images pretty well – the missiles, the spares on the rear racking and the EW gear on top are evident in this shot.
Underneath probably won't be shown, but it is as detailed as most modellers would like...
A closer look at the driver's position and dash with the radio next to it.
The kit's profile captures the low and wide stance of the Humvee quite well, the TO lanncher the cherry on top!
It looks like rubber tyres for this one, guys – ohh well!
Interestingly, the single TOW launcher and ammo are also available in a new kit from AFV Club...

You can find out more about this kit when it comes online on the AFV Club website.
