Hans-Joachim Marseille, widely known as the "Star of Africa", was one of the most brilliant and unorthodox fighter pilots of World War II, credited with 158 aerial victories before his tragic death at just 22 years old. Operating in the harsh North African desert, Marseille was celebrated not just for his peerless deflection shooting skills but also for his rebellious, playboy personality that frequently defied rigid military discipline. His chivalrous attitude towards defeated enemies and his sheer magnetic charm earned him the deep respect of both his fellow Luftwaffe pilots and his international Axis allies.

Among his most famous personal possessions was a specialised Volkswagen Type 82 Kübelwagen nicknamed "OTTO", which became an iconic symbol of his time in the desert. Gifted to him by an Italian fighter squadron, the rugged, open-top transport was named "OTTO"—the Italian word for eight—to commemorate his jaw-dropping feat of shooting down eight British aircraft within a single 10-minute window. The vehicle featured distinctive hand-painted lettering and whimsical artwork across its sand-camouflaged body, and it remains a legendary subject among military historians and scale-model enthusiasts today.

The Kit:

When built up, Meng's kit, "Marseille's Pkw.K1 Kübelwagen Type 82 OTTO" in 1/35th scale, is 108 mm long, 46 mm wide, and 43 mm high once assembled. This kit includes fine decals and quality 3D-printed tyres and provides three paint schemes. There are three main sprues in this kit, with a clear and some declas with 3D-printed parts and two figures included.
