Land Utility Tractor Standard N Mod. 1939 "Orange"
Kit No. #38089
1/35th scale
The kit has four marking choices
The subject: The Fordson Model N 1939 tractor
The 1939 Ford 9N tractor—often associated with the iconic “Orange” hue in certain regional variants—marked a pivotal moment in agricultural mechanisation. Introduced as part of a handshake agreement between Henry Ford and Harry Ferguson, the 9N was the first tractor to feature Ferguson’s revolutionary three-point hitch system. This innovation allowed for safer and more efficient attachment of implements, transforming the tractor into a versatile land utility machine. With its 23-horsepower engine, streamlined aluminium grille, and hydraulic lift, the 9N was designed to meet the needs of small to medium farms, offering a reliable alternative to horse-drawn equipment.
Built at Ford’s Dearborn plant, the 9N was priced at an accessible $585, making it a popular choice among American farmers recovering from the Great Depression. Its simplicity and ruggedness were key selling points: a 4-cylinder engine, 3-speed transmission, and easy-to-service components meant it could be maintained with basic tools. Though not originally painted orange—Ford’s standard colour was grey—some regional distributors and owners repainted their tractors for visibility or branding, leading to the occasional “Orange” 9N seen in historical collections. Pneumatic tyres were optional but quickly became favoured over steel wheels for improved traction and comfort.
The 9N’s legacy endures not only through its mechanical innovations but also through its cultural impact. It represented a democratisation of farming technology, empowering independent farmers with a tool that was both affordable and transformative. The model’s success laid the groundwork for future Ford tractors, including the 2N and 8N, and solidified the brand’s reputation in the agricultural sector. Today, restored 9Ns—whether in their original grey or custom orange—are cherished by collectors and historians alike as symbols of ingenuity and resilience during a transformative era in rural life.
This new boxing from MiniArt:
This model represents the tractor that ploughed the fields all week and when war came, towed trailers, generators, and bomb trolleys for the Allies. This kit recreates the tractor’s heavy pressed-steel build, exposed four-cylinder engine, and signature wheels, making it a perfect slice of civilian or behind-the-lines life for any 1/35th scale farm or even military use/WWII diorama.

Included in this kit:
- Photo-Etched Parts are included for extra realism in the thinner parts of the kit.
- Clear parts for head- and work-lamp lenses
- Decal sheet with three vehicle markings included
- Attachments for the plough and other machinery are included.
- Two exhaust options are included for this tractor.
Tou can se the differences between the "Blue" & "Orange" versions.
The main visual difference from their 1934 Fordson tractor is the large rubber tyres that replace the steel wheels on the front and back of the tractor. Rubber was in short supply and expensive in the thirties, and these tractors were a harsher ride but less expensive.
The Markings:
These tractors were exported all around the world. There are four different versions of this tractor from Australia, the Netherlands, Spain & the UK.

That is all we have on this kit so far. See more about all of MiniArt's kits on the MiniArt website.
