The Subject: Enhanced Main Battle Tank (EMBT)
The Enhanced Main Battle Tank (EMBT) is a cutting-edge Franco-German technology demonstrator developed by KNDS—a joint venture between France’s Nexter Systems and Germany’s Krauss-Maffei Wegmann. First unveiled at Eurosatory 2022, the EMBT represents a fusion of the Leclerc turret and the Leopard 2A7 chassis, combining the best of both nations’ armoured warfare expertise. Its modular design and open architecture are intended to showcase what a modern MBT could look like using existing technologies, while laying the groundwork for future European tank development under the MGCS (Main Ground Combat System) programme.
Technically, the EMBT features a 120mm CN120-26 smoothbore gun, with the option to upgrade to the ASCALON 140mm cannon, offering significant growth potential in firepower. It includes a 22-round autoloader, reducing crew requirements and improving reload efficiency. The turret is manned by two crew members—a commander and a gunner—while the hull houses a driver and a system operator, enabling dynamic task allocation through a reconfigurable Man-Machine Interface (MMI). This setup supports advanced sensor integration and AI-assisted operations, enhancing situational awareness and combat effectiveness.
The EMBT also incorporates modern survivability features such as the Trophy Active Protection System (APS), a 30mm remote-controlled weapon station, and improved crew ergonomics. Its powertrain is based on the EuroPowerPack, which includes the MTU MT883 engine and Renk HSWL 295TM transmission, delivering 1500 horsepower and a top speed of 65 km/h. While only two demonstrators have been built so far, the EMBT serves as a testbed for future MBT concepts, bridging current capabilities with next-generation battlefield demands.
The kit from Amusing Hobby:
This new kit, number #35A066 from Amusing Hobby, features the add-on reactive armour, mudguards & new sighting equipment for this variant.
The EMBT's extensive electronic & anti-drone countermeasure suite equipment is evident with this almost Christmas tree appearance of the top of the turret.
Heat-dissipating rear grilles are depicted in plastic in this kit. No doubt there will be plenty to be added to the kit in the future if it enters service.
The main gun and turret-mounted remote MG can be posed. Hatches can be opened, but there are no internal parts.
Workable suspension is included in this variant
There is no more information on this kit at the moment. For all of their kits, check out Amusing Hobby's Facebook page, as their website does not seem to be working right now...
