Land Utility Tractor Standard N Mod. 1941-42
Kit No. #35466
1/35th scale
The kit has four marking choices
The subject: Land Utility Tractor Standard N Mod. 1941-42
Functionally, the Standard N served as a universal platform: towing artillery limbers and light trailers; hauling fuel and stores; powering stationary pumps and winches through a power take‑off; and supporting bridging or engineering parties. The cab was minimal—an open-sided shelter or simple canvas hood on many examples—because priority was given to visibility, rapid egress, and uncomplicated controls that could be mastered by drivers with limited training. Modular attachment points and standardised hitching equipment meant workshops could fit winches, cable reels, or agricultural implements without bespoke fabrication, increasing the tractor’s value across supply, recovery, and field engineering units.

The tractors used in this preview are the ones selected from this boxing of the kit's four marking choices
Wartime resource shortages led to structural modifications, resulting in the standard adoption of "narrow" rear mudguards/wings, departing from the wider fenders sometimes found on earlier models. Furthermore, to combat rubber scarcity, many production units were fitted with steel wheels (frequently described as "ordinary" or "skeleton" wheels) instead of the large pneumatic rubber tyres that had been available on earlier civilian models.

One of the tractors selected is this post-war Australian service vehicle, seen here on a Maltese airfield servicing the 78 Fighter Wing RAAF in 1953.
Operationally, the 1941-42 Model N focused on enhanced reliability and utility in austere conditions, featuring improvements to the oil-bath air cleaner to better withstand dust. The tractor continued utilising the reliable 27hp four-cylinder engine with a magneto system, which provided essential low-tech maintainability for military logistical tasks, such as towing trailers and bomb trolleys, which required fewer specialised parts compared to previous variations.

An RAF tractor refuelling during WWII is also a choice in this boxing.

This kit from MiniArt:
This model represents the tractor that was widely used across military sectors during World War II. This "green" version represents the wartime modification adapted for the Royal Air Force, amongst others, and general service use, easily recognised by its durable build and characteristic olive finish and narrow silhouette.
